Tara Hill Top is located in the Machhapuchhre Village Development Committee of the Kaski district, Nepal. It lies at an altitude of 3,056 meters above sea level. We can have a magnificent view of the Mt. Annapurna range and Mt. Machhapuchhre from the summit.
In addition, we can have a panoramic view of beautiful hills such as Khumai Hill, Pipar Hill, and Korchan Hill. Well, Khumai, Pipar, and Korchan are the popular trekking destinations of the Machhapuchhre Model Trek.
Tara Hill Top
The northern part of Nepal is surrounded by The Great Himalayas. There are numerous trekking routes all across the northern parts of Nepal. Similarly, Pokhara, the second-largest city, is one of the centers points for various trekking destinations.
The lists of trekking destinations include ABC Trek, Mardi Himal Trek, Machhapuchhre Model Trek, Kori Trek, and so on. Among these lists, Tara Hill Top is one of the shortest trekking destinations in Nepal.
There used to be a seven-day trekking route from Pokhara to Lamjung. It was a very popular trekking route back then. Later on, the route got abandoned due to the development of roadways.
In fact, most of the trekking routes are affected by the roadways. Furthermore, it affected lots of people on those routes. Similarly, many lodges and guest houses are abandoned now. Tara Hill Top was one of the destinations along the route.
Tara Hill Top in ACAP
Tara Hill Top is densely covered with an enchanting rhododendron forest. Similarly, many villagers climb the forest time after time for firewood, herbs, and baby bamboo shoots.
Moreover, there are several rare species of wildlife in the dense forest of Tara Hill, such as the red panda, clouded leopard, and Himalayan black bear. In fact, some villagers used to hunt these creatures in the old days.
However, since the establishment of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in the Machhapuchhre Village Development Committee, hunting has been completely stopped.
Furthermore, strict rules have been enacted against illegal activities such as stone quarrying and logging. On the other hand, ACAP organizes several campaigns like reforestation and selective cutting.
Tara Hill Top Route
The hiking trail starts from Ghale Kharka village, which lies in the lap of Tara Hill. The hiking trail passes through a dense forest of rhododendron. After around 5 hour hike from Ghale Kharka, you can reach your destination.
You can hire a jeep from Pokhara to Ghale Kharka. The jeep will take you to Ghale Kharka in approximately 2 and a half hours.
Moreover, you can also take a local bus from Bagar to Bhurjung Khola. Bagar is a small town, about 6.2 kilometers away from Pokhara Domestic Airport. Basically, it will take around 2 hours to hike from Bhurjung Khola to Ghale Kharka.
However, there are no lodges in Tara Hill Top. There is a small shelter, which is in a bad condition. Therefore, it is better to take your own camping gear if you are planning for a trek to Tara Hill Top.
Ghale Kharka is a typical village of the Ghale people. Ghale is the indigenous group of Nepal, rich in culture and tradition. The village lies at an altitude of 2710 meters above sea level. Most of the houses in the village have stone roofs, as there is a large stone quarry near the village.
Also, this mine is a major source of stone for Pokhara city. The main occupation of Ghale is agriculture. Moreover, some of them have ship farms in different parts of Tara Hill. Undoubtedly, it will be a good experience to explore the lifestyle of Ghale and its traditional cultures.
Actually, Bhurjung Khola is the largest village in the Machhapuchhre Village Development Committee. And, it is like a center point for all the surrounding villages. Similarly, people from the surrounding villages need to come to Bhurjung Khola for various activities like shopping, official documentation, school, and many more.
In fact, it is one of the major tourist attractions of Pokhara as well. Since the establishment of Gandaki Rainbow Trout Fish Farm, the village has become quite popular among the people. In addition, many people from outside the city, visit the village most of the year.
Moreover, it will take around 5 hours to reach Sikles from Tara Hill. In fact, the route was used by the nearby villagers in the old days for trade. Sikles is one of the largest Gurung villages in Nepal. It is also one of the major tourist destinations in Pokhara.
Recently, the trekking associations are working on its development. They are planning for opening the old trekking route again. Also, the route improvement campaign was held a few months ago. According to the association, the route will include Thak, Tara Hill Top, Sikles, Kapuche Lake, Kori, and so on. It will be a trek of 5 days according to them.
